The Winn‑Dixie Co. celebrated the grand opening of five newly converted stores across Florida and Georgia last weekend, part of the grocer’s ongoing transformation and continued investment in the communities it serves.
The stores were formerly Harveys Supermarket locations.
Each grand opening featured ribbon‑cutting ceremonies with local officials and community partners, live entertainment, giveaways, and customer activities. Winn‑Dixie also presented $1,000 donations to local schools and nonprofit organizations in each community.
The converted stores now feature refreshed departments, expanded authentic Hispanic offerings, enhanced deli and seafood experiences, updated store designs and improved shopping experiences shaped by customer and associate feedback. The openings reflect the company’s broader effort to unite stores under the Winn‑Dixie banner across Florida and southern Georgia.
The new locations are:
- 5909 University Blvd. W., Jacksonville, Florida;
- 5250 Moncrief Rd. W., Jacksonville, Florida;
- 3606 Second St., Folkston, Georgia;
- 1305 Ariana St. W., Lakeland, Florida; and
- 2630 U.S. Highway 92, Lakeland, Florida.
For independent grocers in these markets, the conversions represent a direct competitive challenge. The expanded Hispanic offerings – including authentic products and dedicated sets – target a growing demographic segment that independents often serve through specialty sourcing. The enhanced deli and seafood counters raise the bar for fresh prepared foods, an area where small operators can still differentiate through personalized service and local supplier relationships. The $1,000 donations to local schools and nonprofits also demonstrate a community‑engagement play that independents can match or exceed with their own hyper‑local giving.
The Winn‑Dixie Co. operates grocery stores across Florida and southern Georgia under the Winn‑Dixie banner, serving communities with fresh food, everyday value and local giving.
