Food City company officials broke ground May 15 for a new store on Old Highway 20 in Madison, Alabama, the sixth location planned for the greater Huntsville market. The 56,000-plus-square-foot retail supermarket is expected to open next spring.
“Our first four Huntsville locations have been very well received, and we would like to thank our valued customers for the great welcome they have shown our company,” said Steven C. Smith, president and CEO.
“Our new store in Athens, Alabama, is scheduled to open later this summer, and we are excited to be adding a sixth location … to better serve the residents of Huntsville and Limestone County.”
Store amenities
The new location will include:
- In-store bakery and deli with a hot food bar;
- Large café seating area and fireplace;
- Fresh food bar offering soup, salad and fruit selections;
- Hickory wood smoker and pizza oven;
- Fresh sushi;
- Wine tasting station and seating area;
- Full-service meat and seafood departments featuring Certified Angus Beef and pre-marinated/seasoned oven-ready products, with in-house butchers available to hand-cut steaks and fresh meat to order;
- Expanded grocery, frozen food and produce departments with specialty, gourmet and vegan items;
- Food City Floral Boutique staffed with a designer seven days a week;
- Six traditional check-out lanes and seven self-checkouts;
- Curbside pickup and home delivery for online shopping;
- Food City Pharmacy;
- Food City Gas N’ Go with fuel and diesel; and
- Starbucks cafe.
Energy efficiency
The store also will feature several award-winning energy-saving concepts, ranging from energy-efficient glass cooler doors, parking lot lights and refrigeration systems to motion sensors and 100-percent LED lighting.
“Our customers can expect to find exceptional customer service and top-quality products at the lowest possible prices, along with great variety/selection and some exciting new services,” Smith said.
