North Carolina-based Kroger subsidiary Harris Teeter is breaking ground on a new location in Jacksonville, Florida, on April 24.
Local elected officials, including Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan, as well as Harris Teeter President Tammy DeBoer are expected to be on hand for the groundbreaking. The will sit at 11901 Atlantic Blvd. at the “heavily traveled” intersection of Atlantic Boulevard and Kernan Boulevard North, according to the property’s developer, Sleiman.
Sleiman says the new Harris Teeter is expected to open in the spring of 2027.
Store particulars
The 61,000-square-foot store will create 100 to 200 jobs, the company said.
Store amenities include a full-service wine and beer bar; a Starbucks counter; Harris Teeter Pick Up shopping; expanded produce and meat/seafood departments; full-service floral department; expanded deli and bakery department that offers fresh pizza; Murray’s Cheese island; Asian hot bar; meal solutions; fresh cakes; and a bread program.
A fuel center and a pharmacy with drive-thru window round out the customer conveniences at the new store, which features a new décor package.
Harris Teeter called the store an “exciting expansion,” saying it would provide the community with “high-quality, fresh ingredients, valuable savings through its VIC card loyalty program and exceptional customer service.”
The store will make donations to Feeding Northeast Florida to address food insecurity in the area.
Operating for 60-plus years, Harris Teeter employs 36,000 associates in more than 250 stores and 85 fuel centers. The Matthews, North Carolina-based company has stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Maryland, Delaware, Florida and the District of Columbia.
