Superior Grocers

Superior Grocers, one of Southern California’s largest independent supermarket chains, opened a small-format store under a new banner, The Market By Superior. Traditionally known for large stores and displays, the retailer opened a 25,000-s.f. store at 4040 W. Washington Boulevard in Los Angeles, at the location of the former Washington Square Market.

“Superior Grocers is always looking for ways to improve our customers’ shopping experience,” says Mimi Song, CEO.  “A smaller format is something we are excited to operate as we move towards providing our customers the same great quality, variety and value along with added convenience. Now we can service communities previously underserved, allowing them to experience new and innovative trends.”

The store offers farm-fresh produce, hand-cut meats, freshly baked pan dulces and everyday essentials. Customers can watch fresh tortillas being made in the tortilleria, sample handmade pupusas and drink aguas frescas.
