Martin's app screen

Food Lion’s website and app are back online as of Tuesday, Oct. 20, restoring Food Lion To Go ordering after a cybersecurity incident at parent company Ahold Delhaize USA kept the Salisbury, North Carolina-based chain’s digital channels offline for about a week. Stores, pharmacies and fuel stations stayed open throughout.

Food Lion said the investigation is still ongoing but that there is no evidence at this point that any sensitive customer, associate or partner data was taken.

“We are pleased to have foodlion.com and the Food Lion app back online as we know our customers count on us to provide an easy, fresh and affordable shopping experience,” said Greg Finchum, president of Food Lion. “Over the past several days, we were unable to provide the digital experience our customers expect and deserve, and for that, we’re truly sorry.”

Thank-you offers for customers

Food Lion paired the restoration with a round of offers it described as appreciation for customers’ patience. Through Oct. 23, the chain is offering $15 off a $75 Instacart order and $30 off a $75 DoorDash order with promo code 30FOODLION.

Starting Oct. 21 and running through the end of the month, MVP loyalty members get $10 off a $50 purchase. Beginning Oct. 22, Food Lion To Go pickup and delivery are free on orders of $75 or more through the end of October. The company said additional savings will be available for e-commerce shoppers, MVP cardholders and Shop & Earn participants.

In a separate message posted to its newsroom, the company told customers it had let them down and thanked them for continuing to shop with Food Lion during the disruption.

“We understand how important it is for families to shop for groceries when and how they choose, and we appreciate the patience and support our customers showed during this disruption,” Finchum said. “We’re grateful for the trust our customers continue to place in Food Lion, and we remain committed to earning that trust every day.”

Food Lion operates more than 1,100 stores in 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states with more than 82,000 associates. Through its Food Lion Feeds hunger relief program, the company has donated more than 1.5 billion meals since 2014 and has committed to 3 billion by 2032. It is a company of Ahold Delhaize USA, the U.S. division of Zaandam, Netherlands-based Ahold Delhaize.
