GMI Brands has launched Bobby Van’s Gourmet Steak Jerky, a premium beef jerky line inspired by the Bobby Van’s steakhouse in Bridgehampton, New York, and is building retail distribution through specialty food stores, convenience retailers and mainstream grocery.
“Expanding Bobby Van’s Gourmet Steak Jerky into mainstream grocery is a natural next step as we look to introduce the brand to a broader audience,” said Andrew Gerardi, founder and CEO of GMI Brands, in an email to The Shelby Report. “We believe there’s a real opportunity in the market for a premium, protein-rich snack that delivers the flavor and quality of a steakhouse experience. Our goal is to make Bobby Van’s more accessible to consumers while staying true to the quality and taste that set the brand apart.”
The jerky is available in two varieties: Original, a savory classic inspired by traditional steakhouse flavors, and Au Poivre, a pepper-forward take on the classic steak au poivre preparation. Each bag contains more than 25 grams of protein, is made with all-natural ingredients and is gluten-free. Each 2.5-ounce bag contains more than 25 grams of protein, is made with all-natural ingredients and is gluten-free. The product retails for $12 per bag.
The launch targets consumers ranging from fitness enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers to travelers and busy professionals, as interest in convenient, protein-rich snacking continues to grow throughout the meat snack category, the company says.
“With Bobby Van’s Gourmet Steak Jerky, we wanted to take the flavors and reputation associated with a legendary steakhouse and turn them into something people can enjoy anytime, anywhere,” Gerardi said. “Consumers are increasingly looking for convenient snacks that deliver both great taste and protein, and we believe Bobby Van’s offers something unique in the category.”
Bridgehampton-based GMI Brands is a brand development and product innovation company that oversees product development, marketing, distribution and strategic partnerships.
According to the Bobby Van’s steakhouse website, the restaurant was founded in 1969, “originally renowned as the gathering place for such literary giants as James Jones and John Knowles. It is even rumored that Truman Capote finished his novel In Cold Blood in the original Bobby Van’s. This legacy can be seen today in the art and photographs decorating the dining room.”
