Focus on Fresh: Meat & Seafood

Fareway Stores Inc. plans to redevelop its Fareway Meat & Grocery store at 430 N.W. Second Ave. in Faribault, Minnesota, replacing the existing store at its current location in downtown Faribault.

The project includes a modernized grocery store of about 25,000 square feet along with a 2,700-square-foot Fareway Liquor store. Dean Snyder Construction has been selected as general contractor, with construction anticipated to begin in January 2027 and the new store expected to open ahead of the 2027 Thanksgiving holiday season.

“As a family-owned company, Fareway is committed to investing in the communities we call home,” said Reynolds W. Cramer, CEO. “This redevelopment represents our long-term commitment to downtown Faribault, and our desire to provide area residents with an unmatched shopping experience they’ve come to expect from Fareway. We greatly appreciate the support of local officials and area leaders to help get this project accomplished.”

Plans call for updated and expanded amenities, including backup generator capabilities and solar energy accommodations in the store’s design.

Continuing to serve customers

The current store will continue serving residents without disruption through the 2026 holiday season. Beginning in January 2027, Fareway will offer online ordering and delivery from a temporary e-commerce location near the store so customers can keep shopping during construction. All current employees will be offered jobs at another Fareway location during construction and positions in the new store when it opens.

“For Fareway and the city to partner on the construction of a new Fareway Meat and Grocery store is exactly the kind of investment Faribault residents have been seeking,” said Mayor Tom Spooner. “We couldn’t be more excited to see this vision come to life.”

Fareway has served the Faribault community since 2012. The city process for the project will begin this month.
