Weis Markets has promoted James Godfrey to VP of operational efficiency, elevating the leader of its store-level performance programs as the grocer works to protect margins in a tighter operating environment.
In the role, Godfrey will continue to oversee the development and implementation of store-level programs focused on financial performance, labor productivity, shrink reduction and the customer experience. He continues to report to David Gose, SVP of operations, according to the Sept. 16 press release.
Godfrey most recently served as director of operational efficiency for the grocer. Earlier in his Weis Markets career, he held a variety of store and field leadership positions, including store manager, regional operations specialist, center store field merchandiser and district manager.
The promotion elevates the efficiency function at a timely moment for the Sunbury, Pennsylvania-based retailer, whose second quarter delivered revenue and comparable sales growth alongside a 9.6 percent decline in net income, pressured in part by Medicare changes affecting its pharmacy business.
Founded in 1912, Weis Markets operates 202 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia and Virginia.
