H-E-B is beginning construction on major renovations at its Las Palmas store at 721 Castroville Road on San Antonio’s West Side. The project, which has been in development for several years, will introduce a modernized storefront and a new interior layout that will expand product selections.
Built in the 1950s as a department store, the location became an H-E-B store in 1982 and has received several upgrades during its 44 years in the community.
The renovation is expected to be completed by late 2027. The company said the major investment reinforces its continued commitment to its neighbors in and around the Las Palmas community, which the retailer has been a part of for decades.
“This investment reflects our commitment to create a welcoming store built with our customers and community at heart,” said Josh Sims, top store leader at the Las Palmas location. “We are eager to bring to our Las Palmas store a fresh look and updated shopping experience that this vibrant community will be proud of for years.”
Inside, the updated layout will expand the shopping area and existing departments, allowing for a wider assortment. The floral and produce departments will be relocated to the front of the store, and new product display cases and refrigeration will be installed across multiple departments.
The dedicated Meal Simple department will offer more selection of grab-and-go meals, and a new Sushiya area will carry sushi and Asian grill items such as rice and noodle bowls. A larger full-service H-E-B Pharmacy with two drive-thru lanes will support larger volume for customers. Administrative areas, partner breakrooms and customer bathrooms at the front of the store also will be updated.
The interior Curbside staging area will be relocated closer to the service’s dedicated parking spaces. The rework will make it easier for H-E-B partners to deliver groceries to customers at Curbside parking, allowing for shorter wait times and more time slots for pickups.
On the exterior, updates to the storefront will refresh and enhance the architectural style that makes the location unique. New entryways, tied to the store’s original design, will welcome customers to the updated layout and amenities. In recent years, the parking lot has undergone maintenance work and repairs to improve traffic flow for both in-store shoppers and Curbside customers.
The store will remain open during the renovation work. H-E-B said additional updates will be shared as the project progresses.
