Whole Foods Market will open a new 43,000-square-foot store Sept. 16 at 8100 Elk Grove Blvd. in Elk Grove, California. It will be the fourth Whole Foods Market in the Sacramento area and 94th in the state.

The store will open at 9 a.m. on opening day, with regular hours of 8 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. The product assortment features more than 1,500 local items from more than 300 California-based suppliers, sourced with the help of Patrick Wyman, forager for local and emerging brands at Whole Foods Market.

The produce department offers certified organic, conventional and Sourced for Good selections, with more than 200 local products from suppliers including Full Belly Farm, Durst Organic Growers and Coke Farm. All fresh produce and floral items meet the company’s Pollinator Health Policy to reduce the use of chemical pesticides.

A specialty department dedicated to cheesemakers and artisan producers carries products from Andante Dairy, Charles Chocolates and Nicasio Valley Cheese, with trained cheesemongers at the counter. The seafood counter features items from The Santa Barbara Smokehouse and Tsar Nicoulai, with all offerings either sustainable wild-caught or Responsibly Farmed, while the full-service meat counter offers animal-welfare certified selections, made-in-house sausage and local items from Pozzi Ranch, Mary’s Chicken and True Story Foods.

The beverage department carries spirits, more than 600 wines and more than 300 craft beers, including products from more than 166 local wineries and 130 local breweries. Prepared foods include hot food and salad bars, fresh pizza, a Market Sandwich venue and sushi rolled fresh daily by Genji. The bakery offers bread baked daily along with local items from Sconehenge Bakery, The Baker and the Cakemaker and Sugar Plum Bakery, and the Wellness & Beauty department includes products from Kuli Kuli Foods, Huppy and Cocokind.

Opening day, community support

On opening morning, customers will enjoy coffee from Pachamama Coffee, and the first 300 customers in line will receive a limited-edition Elk Grove tote bag and a Secret Saver coupon with savings of up to $100.

In celebration of the opening, Whole Foods Market is providing food and monetary donations to River City Food Bank, which makes regular surplus food pickups from local Whole Foods Market stores. The nonprofit previously received a refrigerated van from the grocer as part of its Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program, which aims to help local food rescue organizations transport surplus food to areas facing the greatest need.

Founded in 1980, Austin-based Whole Foods Market is part of Amazon’s Worldwide Grocery Stores and serves customers in more than 545 stores across the U.S., Canada and the U.K.
