The Lyman store will feature Chicken Kitchen, a Lowes Original.

Lowes Foods will open a store in Lyman, South Carolina, on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 8 a.m. The store, located at 12189 W. Greenville Highway, is the fourth Lowes Foods in the Greenville-Spartanburg market.

The opening continues the Winston-Salem, North Carolina-based grocer’s expansion across the Carolinas. Lowes Foods announced plans earlier this year to convert the Kj’s Market in Lyman into a full-service Lowes Foods, part of a slate of openings and conversions that has included Waxhaw and Kannapolis, North Carolina, and Johns Island, South Carolina.

“Like all our Lowes Foods stores, our new Lyman store is very focused on supporting all things local,” said Tim Lowe, president. “Our commitment to local includes offering produce sourced through our partnerships with more than 200 farmers from the Carolinas and featuring a wide assortment of unique local products found throughout the store. This is a particularly great time of year to enjoy all the fresh summer produce from local farmers.”

Lowes Foods Originals

The Lyman store will feature the grocer’s signature Lowes Foods Originals, in-store departments unique to the banner. The Beer Den offers local craft selections, where shoppers can grab a pour while they shop or fill a growler to take home, with half-price pints on Thursdays and Friday Night Flights. Boxcar Coffee serves coffee and smoothies, while The Cakery features square cakes assembled in view of shoppers and topped with icing made fresh in-store with real cream and butter.

The Community Table, constructed of reclaimed wood from local barns, serves as a gathering place for food pairings, tea parties, floral arranging classes and private events. The Cheese Shop carries traditional cheeses and rare finds.

In the deli area, SausageWorks features locally made pork, beef and poultry sausages in flavors ranging from familiar crowd-pleasers to what the company calls “are they insane?” combinations. The Chicken Kitchen offers rotisserie chicken, fried chicken, wings, pot pies, tenders, chicken salad and Cock-a-Doodle Noodle soup, with chicken that is fresh, never frozen, locally sourced and raised with no antibiotics ever. The Smokehouse provides a daily rotation of wood-smoked meats, with 44-cent wings on Wednesdays and half racks of ribs for $8 on Fridays. Sammy’s serves custom sandwiches and pizza made with Boar’s Head products or Smokehouse selections.

The store also will offer online shopping through Lowes Foods to Go.

Founded in 1954, Lowes Foods employs nearly 9,000 people and operates more than 80 full-service supermarkets in the Carolinas. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hickory, North Carolina-based Alex Lee Inc., which also is the parent of Merchants Distributors, Souto Foods, Import Mex and W. Lee Flowers & Company.
