General Mills is returning its limited-edition Monsters Cereals to shelves nationwide later this summer, marking the 55th anniversary of Count Chocula, Boo Berry and Franken Berry with new packaging built around the puppet characters created by The Jim Henson Company.
The Minneapolis-based manufacturer introduced the reimagined puppets last year in a first-time collaboration with Henson. This year’s boxes carry new designs featuring those characters, and fans will be able to convert each box into a puppet.
The seasonal cereals have been a Halloween shelf fixture since General Mills moved them to limited annual release in 2010, and prior collaborations, including a 2022 partnership with artist Kaws, have drawn collector interest.
“Fans loved Count Chocula, Boo Berry and Franken Berry reimagined through The Jim Henson Company’s creativity last year, so we were excited to team up again to create fresh new packaging designs,” said Megan Brooks, business unit director for family favorites cereal at General Mills.
Walmart exclusive follows last year’s format
A limited-edition fuzzy Count Chocula box designed to mimic the fleece texture of the puppets will be sold exclusively on Walmart.com for $7.76 starting Oct. 1. The company ran a comparable fuzzy Franken Berry box on Walmart.com last year.
“New this Halloween, we’re giving cereal and Jim Henson Company fans alike the chance to put their creativity to the test by transforming each cereal box into its own Monster puppet,” said Nicole Goldman, EVP of branding at The Jim Henson Company.
General Mills generated fiscal 2026 net sales of $18 billion. Its brands include Cheerios, Nature Valley, Blue Buffalo, Häagen-Dazs, Old El Paso, Pillsbury and Betty Crocker.
