rendering of new H-E-B store for San Antonio East Side

H-E-B plans to open a new store on San Antonio’s far east side, at Interstate 10 and 1604 East near Converse, with construction underway and an opening expected in late 2026.

At 125,000 square feet, the store will feature a True Texas BBQ restaurant with indoor seating and a pharmacy with drive-thru. It also will offer H-E-B Curbside with more than 30 parking spaces and home delivery for surrounding neighborhoods.

The store’s general manager, Will Tate, is from the area and has held leadership positions at several H-E-B locations.

“I have some deep roots in this community. I grew up here,” said Tate, an employee of more than 30 years. “I’m looking forward to working with our Partners to create a store environment that both serves and celebrates the people in this community.”

Tate added that the store will serve customers in several east-side communities as well as commuters on their way home to Seguin, La Vernia and other areas.

Store departments include a bakery with artisan breads, cakes and warm tortillas made in-store daily; Sushiya made-to-order sushi; H-E-B Meal Simple prepared meals; a deli with a cheese selection and charcuterie island; and a produce section with organic and Texas-grown selections.

There also will be a meat market with Prime, natural and organic meats, Wagyu and fully cooked options; sustainably sourced seafood; Cooking Connection with live demonstrations and samplings; a craft beer and wine selection with a sampling station; and a Blooms floral department with online ordering and delivery.

In addition, shoppers will find a Healthy Living department with bulk foods, sports nutrition products and supplements; household essentials and beauty departments; a pet department featuring Heritage Ranch by H-E-B pet food; and Texas Backyard, with live plants, pottery, soil and outdoor living products.

The store will have more than 400 employees.

To commemorate the occasion, H-E-B gave $25,000 to Boysville San Antonio, which provides services for children, youth and young adults who have experienced abuse, neglect or family crisis.

Along with the store, the development will feature retail buildings and sites for future development.

The largest privately held employer in the Lone Star State, H-E-B, operates more than 455 stores in Texas and Mexico.
