Big Y is now open at 24 Mattakeesett St. in Pembroke, Massachusetts, the first of two new locations slated to open in the company’s home state this year.

The store’s bakery offers custom cakes, and the full-service butcher shop provides cut-to-order meats. The seafood department includes sustainable selections delivered six days a week, along with made-to-order items such as fish and chips. In the kitchen and deli, customers can choose from Big Y Quick, Easy meal solutions, hand-tossed pizza by the slice or whole pie, fresh sushi and custom-made subs and paninis. The deli also carries Boar’s Head meats and cheeses, available sliced or pre-packaged.

Products from local partners are featured throughout the store, including produce from Souza Family Farm and Wilson Farm, Yankee Trader seafood products and rye breads and asiago rolls from Fireking Baking Company. The grocery department carries Nantucket Crisps potato chips, Three Gingers Beef Jerky and Lighthouse Keeper’s jams, jellies and hot sauces.

The store created 100 part-time and full-time jobs, and hiring is ongoing, according to the company. Applicants can apply through Big Y’s careers page.

Grand-opening festivities begin June 18 and include giveaways, special offers and sample tastings. Members of myBigY earn 500 rewards points when $10 is spent in a single transaction through Aug. 26. Members who shop between June 4-22 will be entered into a grand-opening giveaway for a chance to win one of three prizes – 20,000 points ($200 in groceries), 10,000 points ($100 in groceries) or 5,000 points ($50 in groceries).
