Publix truck on way to Kentucky

Publix Super Markets has executed a lease on a new store location in Nicholasville, Kentucky, adding to the grocer’s growing footprint in the Bluegrass State.

Publix at Stonedale will be located at the northwest corner of Nicholasville and Brannon roads and will feature a 54,964-square-foot store with an adjacent Publix Liquors. The location is expected to employ approximately 150 associates. An opening timeframe has not been determined.

Building a Kentucky presence

The Nicholasville lease is the latest in a steady drumbeat of Kentucky announcements for Publix, which entered the state in January 2024 with its first store in Louisville’s Terra Crossing Shopping Center. The Lakeland, Florida-based grocer now has six stores open in Kentucky, with additional locations announced or under development across the state.

In April, Publix signed leases for three stores in Richmond, Versailles and Bowling Green. The company also has announced locations in Georgetown, Owensboro and multiple sites in Northern Kentucky – including in the greater Cincinnati market, where Kroger is headquartered. The Nicholasville location would extend the company’s presence deeper into the Lexington metro area, where it already operates two stores.

Publix, The Shelby Report of the Southeast’s 2025 Retailer of the Year, is the largest employee-owned company in the U.S. with more than 260,000 associates and operates 1,435 stores across Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Kentucky.
