Publix Super Markets has executed a lease on a new store location in Nicholasville, Kentucky, adding to the grocer’s growing footprint in the Bluegrass State.
Located at Nicholasville and Brannon roads, Publix at Stonedale will total 54,964 square feet with an adjacent Publix Liquors.
An opening timeframe has not been determined for the location, which is expected to employ about 150 people.
Building presence in Bluegrass State
The Nicholasville lease is the latest Kentucky announcement for Publix, which entered the state in January 2024 with its first store in Louisville’s Terra Crossing Shopping Center.
The Lakeland, Florida-based grocer has since opened six stores in Kentucky, with additional locations announced or under development.
In April, Publix secured leases for three stores in Bowling Green, Richmond and Versailles.
The company also has announced locations in Georgetown, Owensboro and multiple sites in northern Kentucky – including in the greater Cincinnati market, where Kroger is headquartered.
The Nicholasville location would extend the company’s presence deeper into the Lexington metro area, where it operates two stores.
Publix, The Shelby Report of the Southeast’s 2025 Retailer of the Year, is the largest employee-owned company in the U.S. with more than 260,000 employees and 1,435 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Kentucky.
