Wegmans Customers Donate Millions to Hunger Relief in Fall 2025

Wegmans Food Markets has released its 2025 Impact Report, detailing the Rochester, New York-based grocer’s community contributions, sustainability progress and workforce investments across its 114-store footprint.

The company contributed $96.3 million to communities in 2025 through corporate gifts, 36.8 million pounds of food donations, employee donations and customer scan campaigns. Through its Check Out Hunger campaign, customers raised nearly $3.1 million.

Growth and Investment

Wegmans opened three new stores in 2025, creating approximately 1,400 permanent jobs and hundreds of temporary construction positions. The company now operates stores across nine states and the District of Columbia, employs more than 55,000 people and sources products from 400 family farms and local suppliers.

The grocer invests approximately $100 million annually in roughly 700 store upgrade projects. In its Rochester headquarters market, Wegmans employs more than 11,000 people and has invested over $160 million in education, development and workforce training programs since 1982.

Sustainability Progress

The company’s zero waste initiative, which began as a single-store pilot in 2016, achieved a companywide recycling rate of nearly 89 percent in 2025. The program rolled out across all stores by 2021 and focuses on diverting waste from landfills through food donations, composting and recycling. Wegmans partners with Natural Upcycling to convert food waste into resources and with CRDC Materials to recycle agricultural plastics into concrete block ingredients.

Workforce

More than 2,300 employees advanced through the company’s development programs in 2025, and approximately 25 percent of employees participate annually in growth programs including mentorship, internships, leadership training and scholarships. Wegmans was ranked No. 1 on Fortune’s Best Workplaces in Retail list for the 10th consecutive year and No. 5 on Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list for 2026, marking its 29th consecutive year on the list.
