The Alabama Grocers Education Foundation (AGEF) held its annual golf outing April 9 at Timberline Golf Club in Calera, Alabama.

The event, presented by Buffalo Rock/Pepsi, brought together members of the grocery industry and raised more than $53,000 to support the foundation’s scholarship programs. To date, the event has resulted in more than $1.5 million in scholarship awards.

The foursome from Coca-Cola Bottling Company United took home first place, while Food City finished second and Country Bob’s third.

“The continued support from our members and partners is what makes events like this possible,” said Ellie Taylor, president and CEO of the Alabama Grocers Association. “When we come together like this, we’re not just supporting a great event — we’re opening doors for students and investing in the future of our industry.”

The outing drew broad sponsorship support from across the grocery industry, including breakfast from Publix Super Markets and Red Diamond, lunch by Greer’s and Higginbotham and the beverage cart from DCR and goody bags compliments of Bunzl.

Hole sponsors included A&R Super Markets, Adams Beverages, AGA Health & Welfare Trust, Alabama Crown, Alabama Power, Associated Grocers of the South, Blue Bell, BTC Wholesale, Bunzl, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. United, Country Bob’s, Eternal Water, Federated Insurance, Food City, Gulf Distributing Holdings, Lewis Bakeries, Merrill Lynch, Mitchell Grocery Corp., Pictsweet, Piggly Wiggly Alabama Distributing Co. and United Distributors of Alabama. Half hole sponsors included C Lane Co., Clark Gas, Designer Greetings, Mayfield Dairy Farms, McCall Farms, Mission Foods, Piggly Wiggly of Birmingham, Reynolds American, Shoals Provision and UTZ/Golden Flake. Telluride provided sampling support.

Proceeds from the event benefit scholarship programs that support employees of Alabama Grocers Association member companies and their families.

The foundation’s mission centers on strengthening the future of the grocery industry by advancing education, growing career development, empowering future leaders and providing financial assistance for AGA member employees and their dependents.
