The United Family has broken ground on a new United Supermarkets location in Wolfforth, Texas, marking the company’s first full-size grocery store in the southwestern suburb of Lubbock.
Slated to open in 2027, the store is located in the northeast part of town, behind the United Express fuel station at Donald Preston Drive and Cambridge Avenue.
“It is always exciting to break ground on a new store, but this one is extra special because we know how excited this community is,” said Sidney Hopper, president of The United Family. “We love Wolfforth and our team can’t wait to bring our signature service closer to all our guests in this community.”
The store will include a pharmacy with drive-thru, ReadyMeals, in-store bakery, floral department with delivery, full-service meat counter, Starbucks and Taphouse 16.
New to this location, shoppers also will have access to a rentable meeting and event space that seats up to 50 people. The store is expected to add about 200 jobs to the community.
“The groundbreaking for the United Supermarket is a remarkable event for the city of Wolfforth,” said Mayor Charles Addington II. “It starts the final stage of a process that has taken years to complete.
“The United Family and the city of Wolfforth have worked closely together to develop something that will bring a positive impact to all families in the Wolfforth area.”
Danielle Sweat, executive economic development director for the Wolfforth EDC, said the groundbreaking marks a major quality-of-life milestone for the town.
“For the first time, our residents will be able to meet their everyday needs right here at home, without leaving the community,” she said. “We are incredibly grateful to United Supermarkets for believing in Wolfforth and investing in our families.”
United Supermarkets, doing business as The United Family, operates stores in 55 Texas and New Mexico communities.
A subsidiary of Albertsons Companies, the company operates 100 retail grocery stores under four banners – United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigos and Albertsons Market – along with 41 convenience stores.
