San Antonio-based H-E-B has announced plans for a major investment in Ennis, Texas, with a new store that will more than double the size of its existing downtown location in the North Texas city, where the company has operated for more than five decades.

The 112,000-square-foot store will replace the current downtown store and be located at the corner of North Sonoma Trail and East Ennis Avenue. Plans are going through the permitting process, with the project moving forward in mid-2027 and completion estimated by late 2028.

“We are proud to have served our neighbors in Ennis for more than 50 years, and we hope our new store will continue to be an important part of this community,” said Mabrie Jackson, H-E-B managing director of public affairs. “We want our customers to be proud of this new store, and we are committed to have it reflect the personality of the community and the deep gratitude we have for our loyal customers.”

The store’s features

The store will include a full-service pharmacy with drive-thru, curbside service with dedicated parking, home delivery and South Flo Pizza, the company’s made-to-order artisan pizza concept. Other features include a bakery with artisan breads and tortillas made in store daily; meat and seafood markets with Prime, natural and organic meats; extensive craft beer and wine selections; a Healthy Living department with bulk foods and supplements; a pet department featuring the company’s Heritage Ranch pet food; H-E-B Blooms floral; the Texas Backyard garden department; Meal Simple chef-inspired prepared meals; and Sushiya sushi made in store daily with Asian grill items.

The current store at 101 S. Clay will remain open until the new store is operational; no plans have been decided for the property afterward. Store partners will have the opportunity to transition to the new location, with additional jobs posted to H-E-B’s careers page as they become available.

H-E-B, with sales of more than $50 billion, operates 460 stores in Texas and Mexico and employs more than 175,000.
