Ahold Delhaize has announced that future president and CEO Thierry Garnier will join the company Jan. 11, 2027, as EVP before beginning his tenure as president, CEO and a member of the management board at close of business March 3, 2027.
The supervisory board nominated Garnier in May to succeed Frans Muller, and shareholders approved his appointment at the company’s extraordinary general meeting Oct. 13. His management board appointment runs for a four-year term ending at the close of the 2031 annual general meeting.
Between January and March, Garnier will spend significant time in Ahold Delhaize’s markets with its brands, getting to know the business, customers and people as part of his onboarding, the grocer said.
Muller will retire from Ahold Delhaize and step down as president and CEO and from the management board at close of business March 3. He remains fully responsible for leading the company until that date and will work with Garnier and the supervisory board to support a smooth transition.
