H-E-B has purchased more than 20 acres at the northeast corner of Chisholm Trail Parkway and Oakmont Boulevard in Fort Worth, Texas, where it plans to build a store serving the southwest side of the city.

The store, according to the Oct. 2 announcement, will sit within Overland, a 250-acre master-planned community that is part of the Edwards Ranch, which has been family owned since 1848. Cassco, the Edwards family’s development arm, has developed the land since 1956 for neighborhoods and mixed-use projects including Clearfork, Riverhills, Overton Park and Tanglewood.

Construction is set to start early next year, with the store expected to open in late 2028. H-E-B said the store’s design, inside and out, will reflect the character of the surrounding community, with additional details to be shared as plans develop.

“For years, customers have asked us when a new H-E-B would come closer to downtown Fort Worth, and with our new store on Chisholm Parkway, we can now say that day is soon,” said Stephen Butt, president of H-E-B shareholder relations.

“The Edwards family has always been forward thinking and very patient as they have successfully developed legacy properties to serve the neighborhoods of west and southwest Fort Worth,” he added.

“We are honored to partner with H-E-B, a beloved Texas institution whose deep connection to its customers and neighborhoods closely reflects our own values of thoughtful development and investment in the Fort Worth community,” said Crawford Edwards, president of Cassco. “H-E-B has earned the trust and loyalty of generations of Texans, and we look forward to the meaningful role they will play in the Overland community for years to come.”

H-E-B opened its first Fort Worth store in 2024 as part of its continued push into the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

San Antonio-based H-E-B, the largest privately held employer in Texas, operates 460 stores in Texas and Mexico with more than 175,000 partners and sales of more than $50 billion, serving more than 300 communities.
