Aisle Watch

Southern Recipe Small Batch, the handcrafted pork rind brand from Rudolph Foods, is releasing three new flavors: Air Fried Buffalo Wing, Air Fried Pizza and Pimento Cheese. The varieties carry a suggested retail price of $3.99 and launched in mid-September on PorkRinds.com.

The snacks arrive at Meijer stores on Oct. 2, with additional retailers to follow, according to a spokesperson from the products’ ad agency.

Dallas, Texas-based Rudolph Foods said air fried pork rinds represent where the snack aisle is headed, pairing flavor variety with product differentiation. The company says its air-fried pork rinds have nearly 30 percent less fat than traditional oil-fried pork rinds.

The brand’s pork rinds offer 8 grams of protein and 7 grams of collagen per serving, are low carb and are naturally gluten-free, the company added.

“Through flavor innovations like Air Fried Buffalo Wing and Pizza, we’re proud to bring on-trend flavors to pork rinds, while meeting consumers’ changing needs for low carb, protein-packed snacks that are still lower in sodium and sugar,” said Mark Singleton, VP of sales and marketing at Rudolph Foods. “And with the introduction of Pimento Cheese, we’re uniting two southern favorites into one unique product, perfectly suited for our consumer. Once again, we’re elevating the perception of the humble pork rind and getting more people to eat more pork rinds, in more places.”

Pizza flavor honors charity namesake

The Air Fried Pizza flavor was created in honor of the Archer Foundation, the charity partner of Rudolph Foods’ Crunch Time Hero of the Week campaign. The foundation’s namesake, Archer, lost his life to DIPG, a form of pediatric brain cancer, at age 6; pizza was one of his favorite foods. The foundation provides support and resources to families facing DIPG and DMG (diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma) and supports research toward effective treatments and a cure.
