The Raley’s Companies will close three stores in California and Nevada between November and January, the company confirmed to The Shelby Report. A fourth store, in Los Gatos, California, is set to close in June 2027 under a decision announced earlier this year.
The Raley’s in Brentwood, California, will close Nov. 3, followed by the Elko, Nevada, store on Dec. 8 and the Petaluma, California, store on Jan. 26.
“These decisions are never easy, but they reflect our commitment to responsibly stewarding a company that has served customers, supported communities, and created opportunities for more than 90 years,” said Chelsea Carbahal, spokeswoman for The Raley’s Companies, in a statement to The Shelby Report. “We continually evaluate where we can best invest to serve our communities, support our team members, and strengthen our business.”
Carbahal said the closures are not part of a larger downsizing effort.
“A variety of factors contributed to these store closures, including local market conditions and the long-term financial sustainability of these locations,” Carbahal said. “Thoughtful stewardship sometimes means opening stores, and sometimes it means making difficult decisions to close them.”
The Brentwood store on Sand Creek Road has served the community for 24 years, according to Contra Costa News, which reported workers were informed of the closure Aug. 3. The Elko store has operated for nearly 40 years and employs more than 40 people, the Elko Daily Free Press reported. The Petaluma store employs 48 workers, according to The Press Democrat, which reported the company plans to offer transfer opportunities to “as many affected employees as possible.”
The Los Gatos store operates under the company’s Nob Hill Foods banner and has been in business for nearly 56 years at Los Gatos Boulevard and Blossom Hill Road. Raley’s chose not to renew a lease that expires in 2027 after reviewing the store’s performance and current economic conditions, according to the Los Gatan.
The announcements follow three closures earlier this year. Raley’s closed its Roseville, California, store in January and its Antioch, California, store in April, according to Contra Costa News. The Nob Hill Foods in Mountain View, California, closed May 29, affecting 50 employees, according to TheStreet.
“These decisions are part of the same disciplined approach that guides investments across our business, including our planned Madera store opening in March 2027,” Carbahal said. “This approach ensures Raley’s remains strong and well-positioned to serve customers and communities for generations to come.”
Raley’s broke ground in June on a 40,000-square-foot Raley’s O-N-E Market at Riverwalk at Riverstone, a master-planned community in Madera, California. The store will anchor a 61,000-square-foot retail expansion and will be the company’s second location in Madera County.
“Our focus now is on supporting our team members, customers, and communities throughout the transition,” Carbahal said.
Raley’s opened its first store in Placerville, California, in 1935 and formed The Raley’s Companies in 2021 after acquiring the Bashas’ Family of Stores.
The West Sacramento-based company operates about 235 stores in seven states and four Tribal Nations under banners including Raley’s, Bel Air, Nob Hill Foods, Raley’s O-N-E Market, Bashas’ and Food City, according to its website.
