Dierbergs Markets will hold a new store grand opening May 5 at 8680 Olive Blvd. in University City, Missouri.
Beginning at 8:15 a.m., Dierbergs will host a public ceremony in front of the store to commemorate its 28th location. Members of the public and media are invited to attend the ceremony before the store officially opens for business at 9 a.m.
The event will recognize many associates, partners and community stakeholders who helped bring the project to life.
Greg Dierberg, president and CEO of Dierbergs Markets, said the new store reflects an effort to understand and respond to the needs of the University City community.
“We’ve spent time listening and learning to ensure we’re best serving the University City community and are ready to welcome customers,” Dierberg said. “This goes beyond expanding an assortment. It reflects our commitment to deliver quality, authentic offerings that truly meet the needs of our customers.”
Mayor Terry Crow of University City said the project reflects more than the addition of a grocery store.
“Dierbergs’ investment in University City represents more than a new grocery store – it reflects the strength, diversity and momentum of our community,” Crow said.
“This development enhances access to high-quality goods and services, creates meaningful job opportunities, and thoughtfully responds to the needs of our residents. We are proud to welcome a partner that recognizes and celebrates what makes University City such a vibrant and inclusive place to live, work, and grow.”
Inside the store
The new supermarket will deliver an elevated shopping experience featuring several location-specific offerings.
Among them is Corner 17, a family-owned Chinese restaurant known for handmade noodles prepared fresh daily and authentic dishes. The store will also feature an expanded, curated assortment of kosher-certified prepared foods, baked goods and grocery items.
The kosher offering reflects a multi-year effort to better serve the local Jewish community. The work was informed by collaboration with area rabbis, engagement with kosher-observant customers and research in leading markets such as New York City and Chicago.
The store will also include an expanded seafood assortment, Dierbergs Kitchen featuring long-time customer-favorite Bob’s BBQ, grab-and-go prepared foods, quality deli selections, Dierbergs Butcher Shop and Bakehouse, Bob’s Barn for beer, wine and spirits, a health and beauty center, and flower and gift shop.
The store will also feature a greener refrigeration system, powered by carbon dioxide, a more natural alternative to traditional refrigerants. As an early adopter of this advanced technology in the local grocery market, Dierbergs is using a more environmentally conscious solution that helps keep products fresh while reducing overall emissions.
Additional retail and jobs
In addition to the grocery store, two multi-tenant buildings will add about 8,500 square feet of retail, restaurant and service space along Olive Boulevard.
More than 100 associates will be employed at the new location. Beginning May 5, store hours will be 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
