Tom Thumb

Shoppers lined up overnight April 24 as the newest Tom Thumb grocery store in North Texas opened at 4221 FM 1387 in Midlothian.

The 59,000-square-foot store is one of four new Tom Thumb locations that have debuted in the region within the past five months. The fifth, under construction in Lucas, is expected to open later this year.

The grand-opening ceremony April 23 drew residents, community leaders and special guests. The event also featured performances by the Midlothian Heritage High School band and cheerleaders.

As part of the celebration, the first 300 shoppers received a free bag of groceries. Customers also found special deals, samples and in-store events. Weekend highlights will include opportunities to win free groceries for a year, among other activities.

Bill Neve, division president, welcomed shoppers to the Tom Thumb family.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome our newest customers in Midlothian into their Tom Thumb,” Neve said. “We’re excited to bring a full-service grocer closer to home for the surrounding communities.”

To mark the occasion, Tom Thumb donated $35,000 to local nonprofits, including Manna House Midlothian and Midlothian Education Foundation.

The new store created more than 200 jobs in the community.
