Tom Thumb

Shoppers lined up overnight as the newest Tom Thumb grocery store opened its doors April 24 at 4221 FM 1387 in Midlothian, Texas.

The 59,000-square-foot store welcomed the community to a long-awaited, full-service grocer close to home. It is one of four new Tom Thumb locations opened in North Texas within the past five months, underscoring the company’s continued investment in fast-growing communities across the region.

A fifth new Tom Thumb location is under construction in Lucas and is expected to open later this year.

The grand opening drew residents, community leaders and special guests who attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday evening. The event also featured performances by the Midlothian Heritage High School band and cheerleaders.

To celebrate the opening, the first 300 shoppers received a free bag of groceries. Customers also enjoyed special deals, samples and in-store events. Weekend highlights will include opportunities to win free groceries for a year along with other special events.

Bill Neve, division president, welcomed the new customer base to the Tom Thumb family.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome our newest customers in Midlothian into their Tom Thumb,” Neve said. “We’re excited to bring a full-service grocer closer to home for the surrounding communities.”

As part of its commitment to the community, Tom Thumb donated $35,000 to local nonprofit organizations, including Manna House Midlothian and Midlothian Education Foundation.

The new store also brought more than 200 new jobs to the community.
