Seven & i Holdings has appointed Mauricio Leyva as CEO of 7-Eleven Inc., its North American convenience store business, effective Saturday, Aug. 1.
Leyva takes over leadership of the Irving, Texas-based c-store operator, which had been led on an interim basis by co-CEOs Stanley Reynolds and Douglas Rosencrans. They took on the roles following the retirement of longtime president and CEO Joe DePinto, who stepped down at the end of last year after more than two decades at the helm of 7-Eleven.
According to the 7-Eleven website, Reynolds also served as president, and Rosencrans filled the additional roles of EVP and chief operating officer.
Leyva has more than 25 years in the consumer products industry, holding leadership roles in consumer businesses in North America, Latin America, Europe and Africa. From 2020-24 he served as group president of Keurig Dr Pepper, where he led post-merger integration and, during his tenure, Dr Pepper grew to become the second-largest carbonated soft drink brand in the U.S. He previously was CEO of Grupo Lala and held senior roles at Anheuser-Busch InBev and SABMiller, including CEO of Grupo Modelo, where he built and scaled the Modelorama convenience store chain in Mexico, according to the news release.
Leyva holds a business administration degree from Universidad de Los Andes in Colombia, with postgraduate studies at ICN Business School in France and executive education at Stanford and the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School.
‘Milestone’ hire as transformation under way
“Mauricio brings a wealth of executive leadership experience at global consumer goods companies and a proven track record of leading business transformations,” said Steve Dacus, president and CEO of Seven & i Holdings. “His appointment represents an important milestone as the company accelerates toward our transformation program ‘North Star.'”
“I have long admired the 7-Eleven brand, and I am honored to lead SEI at such an important moment in its history,” Leyva said. “I look forward to working closely with our franchise owners, our associates and the leadership team across Seven & i to unlock SEI’s full potential.
“Together, we will redefine convenience and bring the 7-Eleven experience to more customers across North America.”
The appointment comes as the 7-Eleven brand approaches its 100th anniversary next year.
7-Eleven Inc. operates, franchises and/or licenses more than 12,000 stores in the U.S. and Canada. In addition to 7-Eleven stores, the company operates and franchises Speedway, Stripes, Laredo Taco Company and Raise the Roost Chicken and Biscuits locations.
