Weis Markets Instacart

Weis Markets has launched Instacart’s Caper Carts at select locations in Pennsylvania, with additional rollouts planned throughout the year.

Part of Instacart’s Connected Stores technology, the carts aim to make in‑store shopping more interactive and efficient.

“Weis Markets and its associates have always been committed to delivering a best‑in‑class shopping experience, and Caper Carts are a meaningful step forward in that journey,” said Greg Zeh, SVP and chief information officer at Weis.

Caper Carts feature real‑time spend tracking, exclusive on‑cart digital coupons and loyalty integration. Shoppers can sign up for a Weis Rewards account on the cart and redeem benefits.

Once loyalty accounts are linked, customers access enhanced features, including “Buy It Again,” which surfaces previously purchased items.

On‑cart advertising also is launching, allowing brands to reach customers while they shop. A location‑aware prompt – “Got everything you need?” – drives nearly a one percentage point lift in basket size on average.

The carts are equipped with basket‑facing camera sensors, certified scales, location tracking and a touchscreen. They are part of Instacart’s Physical AI for grocery approach, combining edge computing on the carts with cloud AI trained on more than 1.6 billion online grocery orders and a decade of grocery expertise.

“Weis Markets has spent more than 100 years delivering value, quality and service to their communities, and we’re thrilled to help them bring that commitment into the next era of grocery with Caper Carts,” said David McIntosh, chief connected stores officer at Instacart.

“As a leader in Physical AI, we’re giving retailers like Weis Markets a competitive advantage by bringing together in‑store and online data through technology like Caper Carts to help them understand and respond to their customers with a level of intelligence that simply wasn’t possible before.”

Weis Markets joined the Instacart Marketplace in 2023. Caper Carts can be found in more than 100 cities and 15 states and are available through more than a dozen retail banners, including Kroger, Schnucks and Wakefern banners (ShopRite, Fairway Market).
