Balls Food Stores has named Ryan Campbell president as David Ball, third-generation president, transitions to the role of chairman of the board of directors where he will focus on growth through acquisitions and mergers.
Balls Food Stores is a 100 percent teammate-owned company and one of the largest locally owned grocery retailers serving communities across the Kansas City region.
Campbell brings more than two decades of leadership experience spanning retail, consumer brands, consulting and military service. Most recently, he served as a consultant with ArchPoint Group, leading strategy, operations and transformation initiatives for Balls Foods through its five-year growth plan, Project 2030.
“Ryan is a proven builder – of teams, brands and growth,” said David Ball. “He brings a unique combination of strategic discipline and entrepreneurial drive, and he deeply understands how to create a strong culture while delivering results. As chairman, I’m excited to focus my time on identifying acquisition and merger opportunities that will strengthen our future, while Ryan leads the organization into our next chapter.”
Prior to joining Balls Food Stores, Campbell served five years in the U.S. Army in military intelligence, specializing as an expert in the Korean military. He then spent 10 years at Deloitte Consulting advising multibillion-dollar organizations on effective organizational strategies and market growth. He later co-founded Desert Door Distillery, serving as CEO and helping build the company into a widely recognized, culturally impactful brand.

Campbell holds an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of Florida. He lives in Overland Park, Kansas, with his wife and two children.
