Clark’s Market
Clark’s Market began in Aspen, Colorado, founded by Tom Clark, Sr. in 1978. Tom’s journey into the grocery business was inspired by his early experiences working at Safeway during college and later at Rocky Mountain Marketing Services in Denver. Captivated by Aspen during his honeymoon in 1970, Tom seized the opportunity to establish a grocery store in the town, leading him to sell everything he owned and move his family to Aspen. This leap of faith transformed a young man’s dream into a small, independent grocery chain with a strong community focus.
Over four decades, Clark’s Market expanded to include eight grocery stores across Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. In 2020, after more than 40 years, Tom Clark, Sr. retired, passing the leadership to his son, Tom Clark, Jr., who now serves as President & CEO. In August 2023, the first Clark’s Market in Denver opened in the historic Lowry neighborhood. Additionally, 2023 saw the completion of a long-planned renovation of the Crested Butte store, marking the end of a two-decade project to remodel all of the company’s resort stores.
