Wakefern Food Corp. is updating its Own Brands food and beverage portfolio and plans to eliminate all synthetic dyes and additional ingredients from Bowl & Basket products by January 2027.
The initiative will remove the ingredients from Bowl & Basket food and beverage items sold at Wakefern supermarket banners, reflecting changing customer preferences and supporting evolving regulatory guidance, according to the cooperative. The updates are designed to maintain the taste and value customers expect, the cooperative said.
Across its Own Brands portfolio, Wakefern offers choices for a range of shopping preferences, including Wholesome Pantry and Wholesome Pantry Organic, which are made without synthetic dyes and many additives. Price Rite Brand food and beverage products already meet the same standard.
“Bowl & Basket was created to give customers great-tasting, affordable products for everyday shopping and cooking,” said Chris Ruane, director of Own Brands at Wakefern Food Corp. “As preferences evolve, we’re making thoughtful updates to the line while staying focused on the taste, value and care customers expect from us. Across our Own Brands portfolio, we’re proud to offer trusted brands that give families more choices at every budget.”
Wholesome Pantry debuted in 2016 as a private-label brand offering free-from and organic foods. Bowl & Basket followed in 2019 as part of Wakefern’s Own Brands transformation, and Price Rite Brand products followed in 2025, offering food and beverage staples to value-driven shoppers.
