Peter Lynch is chairman of the board, chief executive officer, and president of Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., of Jacksonville, Fla., which operates 484 supermarkets throughout the southeastern United States under the Winn-Dixie and SaveRite banners. In late 2011, Winn-Dixie announced it will merge with BI-LO of Greenville, S.C.
Since arriving at Winn-Dixie in December of 2004, Mr. Lynch has guided the company through a significant operational and financial turnaround. Mr. Lynch has presided over the company’s sustainable growth strategy—fresh and local—which is directly tied to Winn-Dixie’s store remodel initiative, and neighborhood marketing and merchandising efforts, including the company’s private label program.
Mr. Lynch began his career as a bagger with Star Market Co. of Boston, eventually becoming president. He has more than 30 years of leadership experience in the food retail industry. Prior to joining Winn-Dixie, he presided as chief executive officer and president over an asset rationalization initiative at Albertson’s. Mr. Lynch also served as president of Acme Markets of Philadelphia, Pa.
He holds a bachelor of science in finance from Nichols College in Dudley, Mass., where he recently joined the board of trustees. He also serves on the board of directors for the Food Marketing Institute and Topco Associates LLC.
