Roskam Foods is centralizing its cereal and granola production at its Grand Rapids, Michigan, campus as part of a broader network optimization strategy. The change will result in the closure of the contract manufacturer’s San Dimas, California, production facility.
The consolidation is anticipated to be complete by Oct. 1. The company said the Grand Rapids campus is best positioned for ingredient sourcing, production resources and automation, and that centralizing production there will improve customer service, accelerate speed-to-market and strengthen quality control across the category while allowing Roskam to fully leverage new capital investment in cereal and granola manufacturing.
Increased efficiency
“Centralizing cereal and granola production at Grand Rapids is an investment in the future of the category and in our customers,” said Andre LeBron, CEO of Roskam Foods. “It positions us to deliver greater efficiency, faster innovation and the consistent quality our customers count on.”
The San Dimas facility joined Roskam through the company’s 2023 acquisition of Organic Milling. The company has relocated all production and scheduling to Grand Rapids to ensure continuity of supply, and customers have been notified directly. Roskam said there will be no interruption to service or supply due to the change.
“Our customers count on us for consistency, speed and quality, and this consolidation delivers on all three,” said Zach Malin, chief commercial officer of Roskam Foods. “By centralizing cereal and granola production and investing in it, we’re building the capacity to innovate faster and grow alongside the brands we serve.”
Supporting displaced team members
Roskam has notified affected employees and completed regulatory filings, including WARN Act notifications. The company said it is supporting affected San Dimas employees and working with other area employers to help connect them with new opportunities.
Founded in 1923 and headquartered in Grand Rapids, Roskam Foods is a contract manufacturer partnering with food brands, retailers and foodservice providers to produce baked snacks, cereals, frozen entrées and refrigerated and shelf-stable products. The company operates more than 2 million square feet of manufacturing space at eight facilities in the U.S. and Canada.
