Meijer opened a new 75,000-square-foot Meijer Grocery store today, Aug. 19, at 33500 Seven Mile Rd., in Livonia, Michigan. It is the company’s fifth Meijer Grocery format store in the Midwest and its fourth in Michigan.
The opening follows the Rochester Hills Meijer Grocery that debuted in May. The Livonia store’s footprint is less than half the size of a Meijer supercenter, offering a food-focused shopping experience with essential categories including produce, dry grocery, fresh meat cut daily, a bakery with in-store cake decorators, full-service deli, pharmacy, health and beauty, baby, pets, cards, party supplies and floral. A “Local Favorites” endcap features Southeast Michigan products such as Grandpapa’s Snacks, Downriver Chips, Faygo Soda and Better Made Snacks.
“Our new Meijer Grocery location will bring convenience to more customers in Livonia for added value closer to home,” said Hank Meijer, executive chairman. “Our team will continue working diligently to ensure customers find quality items at the best prices, because we know that value is more important now than ever before.”
The store features digital shopping solutions including Shop & Scan, discounts on surplus food via the Flashfood app, an expanded area for Meijer Home Delivery and Pickup services and mPerks rewards. It also carries the retailer’s exclusive brands, including premium label Frederik’s by Meijer and True Goodness, which offers products free from more than 100 ingredients.
Community support
Livonia Grocery Store Director Sharron Griffin and her team welcomed customers with a ribbon-cutting event and presented $15,000 donations to Anastasia & Katie’s Coffee Shop, which creates employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and Breaking Barriers Food Pantry, which serves families across Livonia.
The store’s first Simply Give pantry partner is Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, which will receive donations from the retailer’s fall campaign running through Sept. 26. Since 2008, the Simply Give hunger relief program has generated more than $100 million for food pantry partners throughout the Midwest.
“Supporting the communities we serve is one of our highest priorities, and that commitment starts well before a new store opens its doors,” said Rick Keyes, president and CEO of Grand Rapids-based Meijer.
Outside the store, two sculpture gardens feature works by Michigan artists Erik and Israel Nordin of the Detroit Design Center, with connected arcs symbolizing community and vibrant glass inspired by the colors of fresh fruits and vegetables. Inside, the store includes accessibility features such as larger, height-adjustable changing tables in family restrooms and free access to Aira, an app-based service providing live navigation assistance to blind and low-vision customers.
Meijer is a privately owned, family-operated retailer serving customers at more than 500 supercenters, grocery stores, neighborhood markets and express locations throughout the Midwest, with more than 70,000 team members.
