The H‑E‑B Tournament of Champions broke a fundraising record in its 41st year, raising more than $18.5 million through the charitable contributions of nearly 650 companies.
The annual event, which began in 1986 as a golf tournament to benefit Special Olympics Texas, has generated more than $213 million for hundreds of Texas nonprofits focused on children and families.

“Life‑changing transformations and meaningful community support are what drives the H‑E‑B Tournament of Champions and its mission,” said Winell Herron, H‑E‑B SVP of public affairs, diversity and environmental affairs.
“We’re thankful for our dedicated suppliers who share our passion for supporting Texas children and families.”
Throughout the weeklong event, participants volunteered at four San Antonio nonprofits: the San Antonio Food Bank, Special Olympics, the San Antonio River Foundation and Homes for Our Troops.
More than 2,100 volunteers helped with renovation projects and beautification efforts in one of the largest volunteer initiatives in the city.
In partnership with Homes for Our Troops, the tournament provided mortgage‑free, fully furnished homes to two wounded military veterans and their families.
Retired Army Sgt. Michael Gallardo, injured by an explosive device in Iraq in 2007, and retired Army Spclst. Albert Ross, who lost a leg and sustained a traumatic brain injury in Iraq in 2004, will receive keys to their homes in separate dedication ceremonies. The homes include wider hallways, lower countertops, automatic doors and roll‑in showers.
Since 2013, 61 homes have been given to veterans through the tournament and H‑E‑B’s Operation Appreciation Homes Built for Heroes program. Nonprofits in Texas seeking support can apply at hebtoc.com.
