Alan Barry will assume the role of Lidl US chief executive officer, effective in July, bringing nearly two decades of international experience with the company to the top post.
According to a Lidl US spokesperson, Barry joined Lidl US in 2024 as chief operating officer and previously served the company in Ireland and Great Britain.
Alongside his promotion, the spokesperson said Maciej Tylkowski and Jassine Ouali will join Lidl US as chief operating officer and chief customer officer, respectively. Both are moving from similar roles with the company in Great Britain and France.
“Lidl remains committed to its long-term U.S. growth strategy, and the addition of Maciej Tylkowski and Jassine Ouali to the leadership team will further enhance our customer experience and deliver on our promise of exceptional value and quality,” Barry said.
Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, Lidl US operates more than 190 stores in nine states along the East Coast and Washington, D.C., with some 5,000 employees.
The company’s first U.S. stores debuted in 2017 in Virginia Beach and Hampton, Virginia. Within three years, it had expanded to 103 locations across the eastern United States, according to the Virginia Economic Development Partnership.
Since then, the chain has garnered more than 500 awards for its products and shopping experience and has been recognized as a Top 3 U.S. supermarket by Food & Wine Magazine, according to the company’s website.
Lidl operates more than 12,000 stores in 31 countries and employs more than 360,000 people worldwide.
