ShopRite of Yardley hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony April 24 to celebrate the opening of a new Electrify America fast charging station in the store’s parking lot at 1603 Big Oak Road in Yardley, Pennsylvania.
The new station features 10 Hyper-Fast chargers, each capable of delivering up to 350kW.
The Colalillo family, owners and operators of the ShopRite of Yardley, joined store employees and Electrify America representatives to highlight the importance of expanding access to local sustainable transportation options.
Joseph Colalillo, president of ShopRite of Hunterdon County, said the timing of the launch carried added meaning.
“Launching this state-of-the-art station on Earth Day makes the moment even more meaningful,” Colalillo said. “By working with Electrify America, we’re able to bring convenient, fast and reliable EV charging to our Yardley store while reinforcing our commitment to our customers and community.”
Part of a broader Wakefern push
The installation is part of a broader effort by Wakefern Food Corp., the New Jersey-based, retailer-owned supermarket cooperative, to expand EV charging across ShopRite locations and strengthen sustainable infrastructure in local communities.

ShopRite of Hunterdon County is a Wakefern member and family-owned business run by the Colalillo family for three generations. The family today operates five ShopRite stores located in Yardley and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and Flemington, Clinton and Greenwich, New Jersey.
Meeting drivers where they are
Ursula Lazo, portfolio management leader at Electrify America, said the partnership reflects a customer-centered approach to EV adoption.
“EV charging should fit seamlessly into daily life. Our collaboration with ShopRite enables us to meet EV drivers where they already are and make charging an easy and convenient part of their normal routines,” Lazo said. “This new charging station in Yardley is our first location with ShopRite in Pennsylvania and we’re thrilled to bring this amenity to their customers.”
As Wakefern cooperative members continue to identify new locations for advanced EV charging stations, ShopRite is focused on investing in solutions that support sustainability, enhance convenience and meet the evolving needs of customers.
Wider sustainability commitment
Beyond EV charging, the Colalillo family supports a range of sustainability initiatives at their ShopRite stores, including fresh food donation efforts, recycling and composting programs, and investments in energy-efficient equipment and store operations.
The store’s associate-led Green Team also plays an active role in advancing these efforts, reinforcing a commitment to environmental stewardship and community responsibility.
Representatives from Pennsylvania’s largest electric and gas delivery company, PECO, also attended the ribbon-cutting. Nicole LeVine, PECO’s SVP and chief operating officer, said the project demonstrates how partnerships can advance regional clean energy goals.
“PECO is proud to support this milestone with Wakefern and ShopRite and Electrify America as they continue expanding infrastructure that benefits local communities and the region’s cleaner energy transition,” LeVine said. “This project is a strong example of how partnerships can turn shared goals into real progress for our communities.”
