Arkansas-based Allens Inc., the parent brand of Popeye Spinach and a national leader in canned and frozen vegetables since 1926, hosts the “I Yam What I Yam, Donate a Can” virtual food drive benefiting regional food banks nationwide.

Through the end of October, Allens Inc. will donate a can of Popeye spinach to a local food bank for every new fan at Facebook.com/AllensVeggies. Allens is creating this social media and cause campaign effort to strengthen local food banks that have been hit hard by growing demands for service and rekindle families’ love of Popeye and his spinach.

Donating cans of spinach to food banks is a neighborly way Allens Inc. can help those in need. One click equals one can of spinach donated to families in need of nutrition. The community is encouraged to get as many people to participate as possible.

Allens will donate to The Food Bank for New York City, the North Texas Food Bank, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and the Community Kitchens of Birmingham. Popeye Spinach is a nutritious staple that has been passed down from generation to generation.

“Spinach makes Popeye strong and we want to give strength to the hungry,” said David Brown, VP of retail sales, Allens Inc. “We hope Facebook users come together for this effort and help many hungry families get the nutrition they need.”
