Meijer opened three new stores on May 6, expanding its retail presence across Michigan, Indiana and Ohio with a mix of supercenter and grocery formats.

The openings include a new Meijer Grocery store in Rochester Hills, Michigan; a new supercenter in Brownsburg, Indiana; and a new supercenter in Bainbridge Township, Ohio. The Rochester Hills location is the retailer’s fourth Meijer Grocery format store in the Midwest and its third in Michigan.

Executive Chairman Hank Meijer said the openings reflect the retailer’s ongoing commitment to serving Midwest customers as economic pressures continue to weigh on shoppers.

“As a family company that’s been serving Midwest customers for more than 90 years, we are honored to be able to continue bringing value and convenience to more customers,” Meijer said.

“We understand that value is more important now than ever before, and we will continue working to ensure that Meijer customers are getting the best prices on quality items in one easy stop.”

Rochester Hills brings streamlined format

The new 47,000-square-foot Meijer Grocery store in Rochester Hills, located at 1495 N. Rochester Road, features a condensed footprint for a food-focused shopping experience.

The store offers customers the essential categories needed for a quick trip or weekly restock, including produce, dry grocery, fresh meat cut daily, bakery with in-store cake decorators, full-service deli, pharmacy, health and beauty, baby, pets, consumables, cards, party and floral.

Hank Meijer said the format is designed to bring the shopping experience to more customers in Rochester Hills for added convenience closer to home.

Rochester Hills Grocery Store Director Cynthia Griggs and her team welcomed customers when doors opened, later followed by a ribbon-cutting event. The team presented $15,000 donations to Leader Dogs for the Blind and Rainbow Connection, an organization granting wishes and providing support to kids with life-threatening illnesses.

Brownsburg marks Meijer’s 44th Indiana location

The new 159,000-square-foot supercenter at 9202 E. 56th St. in Brownsburg is the retailer’s 44th store in Indiana.

Meijer offers a farm-fresh produce section as well as an extensive deli and meat department and a full array of specialty, national brand and Meijer-branded grocery items. The new supercenter also features a full-service pharmacy as well as general merchandise, including baby and pet departments, apparel, beauty care, a floral department and an outdoor garden center.

Meijer has been a part of Indiana communities since 1994. The retailer employs more than 13,000 team members statewide at stores and its distribution and manufacturing facilities in Middlebury.

Brownsburg Store Director Rebecca Miller and her team greeted customers into the store with a round of applause when the doors opened at 6 a.m. Meijer made $30,000 in donations to three local organizations, which each received checks for $10,000 during the store’s opening week: Brownsburg Education Foundation, Messiah Lutheran Church Food Pantry and Family Promise of Hendricks County.

Bainbridge Township marks a notable site

The new 159,000-square-foot supercenter in Northeast Ohio is located at 7300 Aurora Road in Aurora, on the site of the former Geauga Lake amusement park.

Meijer opened its first store in Ohio in 1981. The retailer employs more than 14,000 team members statewide at 59 stores, along with the retailer’s distribution and manufacturing facilities in Tipp City.

Bainbridge Township Store Director Drew Manning met with customers when the doors opened at 6 a.m., followed by a ribbon-cutting event. Meijer made $30,000 in donations to three local organizations, which each received checks for $10,000 during the store’s opening week: Kenston School District, Bainbridge Civic Club and the Aurora Schools Foundation.

Time-saving digital shopping solutions

Each of the new stores features digital shopping solutions, including Shop & Scan, which lets shoppers scan barcodes via the Meijer mobile app and bag their items as they shop to make checkout even more convenient.

The stores also offer deep discounts on surplus food via the Flashfood app, an expanded area for Meijer Home Delivery and Pickup services and mPerks rewards to help customers earn on every dollar spent.

The new stores will offer Meijer customers’ favorite brands, including Frederik’s by Meijer and True Goodness.

These exclusive labels offer store brand value combined with high-quality product offerings unique to the retailer. Frederik’s by Meijer, the retailer’s premium brand, delivers authentic and innovative flavors in the spirit of its namesake, Fred Meijer, across dozens of product lines. True Goodness offers consciously crafted products free from more than 100 ingredients, making everyday choices healthier and more accessible.

Commitment To community

Rick Keyes, Meijer president and CEO, said the company’s investment in its new communities begins long before the doors open.

“Investing in the communities we serve is a top priority, and we begin that process long before the doors of a new store even open,” Keyes said. “We look forward to seeing [these stores] further our purpose of enriching lives in the communities we serve, not just by offering a convenient shopping solution but also by being a strong and active community partner.”

Meijer donates at least 6 percent of its net profit to charitable organizations annually, and each of its stores works with local food banks and pantries to help fight hunger. Since 2008, the retailer’s Simply Give hunger relief program has generated more than $100 million for its food pantry partners throughout the Midwest.

Continuing the retailer’s ongoing efforts to ensure accessibility for all customers, each new store features new, larger, height-adjustable changing tables in the family restrooms for the added convenience of customers with disabilities and their caregivers.

As in all Meijer stores, the new locations also offer free access to Aira, an app-based service that provides live navigation assistance to blind and low-vision customers using the camera of their smartphones.
