The Giant Co., which operates under the Giant and Martin’s banners, has announced plans to open a second store in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, aimed at improving accessibility for residents in the northwestern part of the borough.
Construction is scheduled to begin once the company secures all necessary permits and approvals from local authorities.
Specifics regarding store amenities, employment opportunities and a projected opening date will be released as the development progresses.
“We have a long history of serving Lancaster County and Giant remains committed to continued investment in our stores, in our local communities, and in the freshness and value that customers expect when shopping with us,” said John Ruane, president.
“This second Ephrata store will provide greater convenience for our customers living and working in the northwest portion of the borough, coupled with the latest amenities and service delivered with kindness they have come to expect from Giant.”
The Giant Co. has a significant presence in Lancaster County, operating 12 stores with more than 2,100 employees.
The Ephrata announcement follows a period of regional growth for the Carlisle-based grocer.
In February, the company entered into a purchase agreement to acquire Everett Foodliner and Saxton Market in Bedford County. In addition, it is moving forward with plans for stores in Glen Mills and Parkesburg, Pennsylvania.
“Giant remains committed to continued investment in our stores, in our local communities and in the freshness and value that customers expect when shopping with us,” Ruane said.
Founded in 1923, The Giant Co. is a subsidiary of Ahold Delhaize USA and operates nearly 200 stores across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
