Central Market has unveiled preliminary drawings for a location in Uptown Dallas, Texas, that has been on hold since 2023, when plans for a high rise, mixed-use project were complicated by a softer post-COVID commercial market.
Central Market, which took assignment of the property in 2016, has since designed a new standalone store within parameters set by the site’s owner. Pending city zoning and permitting approvals, construction is slated to begin in 2025 and will involve a complete renovation of the building.
“We hope to start construction as soon as possible on this much-anticipated store for our loyal customers and new neighborhood friends,” said Stephen Butt, president of Central Market and H-E-B shareholder relations.
“Uptown is a vibrant, walkable area, and we look forward to collaborating with neighborhood groups and city officials to creatively transform this important location. We appreciate the patience from our friends, neighbors and future shoppers as we move forward.”

The new plans have brought forward many of the elements from the original design. Billed as a destination market for gourmet selections and entertaining, the new location also will include expanded parking on two levels and an open concept cooking school that will double as a community room. In addition, the café area will have a stage for live music.
