Hannaford Supermarkets recently raised more than $900,000 through its hunger program to support people experiencing food insecurity across New England and New York.

The 16th edition of the Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger program delivered the equivalent of more than 9 million meals or nearly 11 million pounds of food to regional food banks and local pantries in the communities where Hannaford operates stores.

“As a grocery retailer, we believe it’s our responsibility to nurture our communities,” said Sherri Stevens, community relations manager for Hannaford Supermarkets.

“The Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger program makes it as convenient as possible for our customers to join us in this effort. We extend our sincere gratitude to the many customers who contributed to this year’s campaign.”

In addition to more than 200 local pantries, Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger’s regional partners include Good Shepherd Food Bank in Maine, New Hampshire Food Bank, Vermont Foodbank, Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, Food Bank of Central New York, and Worcester County Food Bank and Merrimack Valley Food Bank in Massachusetts.

“We are immensely grateful to our transformational partner Hannaford Supermarkets for their unwavering commitment to fighting hunger in our communities and beyond. Their dedication to addressing food insecurity through initiatives like Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger is truly a cornerstone to ending hunger,” stated Heather Paquette, president of Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine.

“Together, we are making strides towards a future where every individual has access to the nutritious and healthy food needed to thrive.”

The 2023 edition of the Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger campaign had two components. The “Donate at the Register” program welcomed customers to make $5 or $10 contributions through donation cards, which were available on in-store displays or during online checkout.

Additionally, customers could help raise funds for those in need by purchasing select Hannaford products through the “You Buy, We Give” program. For each participating item purchased, Hannaford donated 50 cents with a donation match up to $100,000.
