Allegiance Retail Services (ARS), a supermarket services cooperative based in Iselin, New Jersey, has named Joe Fantozzi as president and COO, effective immediately.

Fantozzi was named interim president and COO in September, when John Derderian voluntarily agreed to reduce his responsibilities and transition to a part-time role of principal advisor for retail development and strategic business initiatives for the cooperative.

“As communicated in August, I empaneled a subcommittee of the board of directors to conduct a search for a permanent replacement,” said Louis Scaduto Jr., ARS chairman and CEO.

After engaging a professional recruiting firm, and conducting multiple interviews and assessments, the subcommittee was unanimous in its recommendation that Fantozzi be appointed president and COO.

The boards of ARS and Foodtown have formally accepted and acted upon the recommendation.

In his capacity as president, Fantozzi also will serve on the board of managers for ARS and the board of directors at Foodtown.

The company shared in a statement that Fantozzi’s “accomplishments at the cooperative to date and his understanding of what is required to create a platform of success for the independent supermarket operator was of primary consideration.”
