Peter Pan Seafood has signed a letter of intent for an asset purchase of Anchorage, Alaska-based Trapper’s Creek Smoking Co., including a smokehouse facility in Anchorage and its brands: Copper River Smoking Company, Alaska’s Best, Trapper’s Creek and Eat Like a Grizzly.
Peter Pan leadership plans to expand the company with the addition of smoking capabilities and the growth of its footprint in Alaska. It came under new ownership in 2021, becoming a vertically integrated seafood company with a focus on value-added sales channels.
“We are committed to creating jobs in Alaska and in the U.S., and this is another example of that commitment,” said Rodger May, chief growth officer, Peter Pan Seafood. “We will bring our strong commitment to key stakeholders including employees, customers, fleet, suppliers, business partners and communities for both companies.”
Peter Pan leadership will bring processing and industry innovation to the brands of Trapper’s Creek and Copper River Smoking Co., a company that has been in the smoked salmon business for more than 30 years.
“We are very proud to add these brands, including the Copper River brand, to the Peter Pan Seafood portfolio,” said Kevin Bixler, CEO. “This will fuel our continued growth in new channels and value-added products.”
Trapper’s Creek Smoking Co.’s current owner Andi Wahry will stay on in an advisory role to ensure a smooth transition.
“I’ve always envisioned a long and successful path for this company,” Wahry said. “I’m excited to see how the brand will thrive with Peter Pan at the helm.”
