Since 1965, Ben’s Supercenter has offered its communities a wide selection of affordable name-brand products in agriculture, building materials, grocery, hardware lumber and fuel. In addition, being heavily involved in the community helps the team provide value that makes Ben’s Supercenters complete service locations.
Knowing they need to bring the most diversified shopping experience, third-generation, family-owned Ben’s Supercenter knew they needed to align with the best partners, especially when it comes to retail technology. This is where Great Lakes Data Systems and LOC Software assist Ben’s Supercenter locations.
“Working with Great Lakes and LOC Software has moved us forward in many of our technology needs,” said Kris Kinney, general manager at Ben’s Supercenter.
When the Ben’s team looks to enhance the customer experience, they consider how technology can help pave the path. A few examples include implementing a fuel rewards program and online shopping. The fuel program allows customers to earn points while shopping in-store or online and redeeming them at any of their fuel centers.
Planning and execution from the Ben’s staff and design and support from GLDS made the process for the customers. Online shopping is an illustration of this; it is no longer a luxury, but a requirement for stores. Planning and strategic planning allows shoppers to shop using the method that works for them.
Staying close to community needs is close to Ben’s Supercenters values. It was easily recognized with the Cass City, Michigan, opening, which until 2020 was known as a “food desert.” The community welcomed the store with open arms, knowing they could get fresh groceries in town made all the difference. Technology brought opportunities to the new location and implementing self-checkouts made sense.
“Consulting with GDLS about our options came naturally. The team takes the time to understand our requirements, gives realistic feedback and is a true partner in the industry,” Kinney said. Partnerships like this help retailers stay on the leading edge of technology with plans of growing the self-checkouts to the remaining stores.
“Collaboration with our customers is what we do; we take the time to walk through the process, plan and execute a successful project, and we look forward to being the team they call when they need to explore technology needs,” Kinney said.
Ben’s Supercenter is taking technology to the next level by staying close to customer needs and leveraging partnerships with strategic partners like Great Lakes Data Systems and LOC Software.
