Weis Markets store managers and employees from the company’s New Jersey and Northeast Pennsylvania stores volunteered Aug. 9 with America’s Grow-A-Row in Pittstown, New Jersey.
America’s Grow-A-Row partners with organizations local to its farms to harvest and distribute fresh produce to food insecure families.
During the volunteer day, Weis employees helped harvest more than 16,000 pounds of produce, including zucchini and cucumbers. The produce picked will support approximately 60,000 families in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
In addition, Weis Markets donated $2,500 to America’s Grow-A-Row in support of the organization’s efforts to provide fresh, healthy produce.
“Weis Markets is committed to serving the communities where we live and work,” said Mark Detwiler, district manager and volunteer. “By volunteering with America’s Grow-A-Row, store managers took a hands-on approach to supporting hunger relief in our area. It was a great learning experience.”
Founded in 1912, Weis Markets is a mid-Atlantic food retailer operating 197 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia and Virginia.
