Associated Food Stores, a full-service grocery wholesaler based in Salt Lake City, Utah, has opened a new pharmacy distribution center to offer lower-cost generic drugs to its more than 600 members and affiliates nationwide.
The distribution center was recently awarded Drug Distributor Accreditation from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy.
The 4,000-square-foot distribution center provides an opportunity for grocery store and stand-alone independent pharmacies to have more control over their profitability by purchasing direct from the manufacturer.
“With the continued rising costs of pharmaceuticals, it became increasingly challenging to remain competitive and to help our members remain well positioned in their communities,” said Sam Haddadin, manager of strategic solutions for Associated Food Stores. “This distribution center will go a long way in meeting the requests of our member pharmacies as they strive to meet the needs of their patients.”
Initially, the distribution center will carry the top 400-500 generic drugs with capacity for additional expansion in the future.
“We know the important formula for retailers is procuring the pharmaceuticals at the best possible price and to have it arrive accurately and on time,” said Haddadin. “Our commitment is to excel in these areas.”
