While many professions were hit hard during the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers experienced some unique challenges. In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week May 3-7, Salt Lake City, Utah-based Associated Food Stores and its Associated Retail Operations awarded four teachers, who went above and beyond, a $100 Food Club gift card.
Associated Food Stores is an independent, retailer-owned grocery wholesaler. ARO is a wholly owned subsidiary of AFS.
Guests were asked to submit a name of a teacher with a description of how he or she has gone above and beyond. More than 101 teachers were submitted from across the state of Utah.
A customer named Sheryl said the following about the teacher she nominated, “She has taught children in person in the classroom and has also taught children who opted to learn from home through online lessons … doing the work of two teachers. Her computer skills and creative teaching skills made for an amazing year for both groups of students.”
“We recognize the critical role teachers have always played in our community. This past year only heightened our appreciation for them” said Darin Peirce, VP of Associated Retail Operations. “We are excited to be able to recognize and support several of them.”
As a local company, ARO consists of five local grocery stores (Macey’s, Dan’s, Fresh Market, Dick’s Market and Lin’s Market stores) and supports its communities and those who serve in them. For more information about how AFS gives back to the community, visit afstores.com.
