Chicken of the Sea has awarded a 75-year-old grandmother of five in Appleton, Wisconsin, for taking up Tae Kwon Do after receiving a black belt in mixed martial arts.

Barb Estabrook was honored for “making a commitment to live a more adventurous, happier and healthier life” as part of the seafood company’s “Sea the Possibilities” lifestyle initiative.
Estabrook was chosen from among thousands of promotion participants for setting and achieving a health or fitness goal beyond her comfort zone.
What began as an opportunity for Estabrook to volunteer at a local martial arts studio led to her enrolling in a Tae Kwon Do class to supplement her fourth-degree black belt in mixed martial arts. Since becoming a Tae Kwon Do student in March, Estabrook has advanced to a yellow belt and continues her weekly classes.
“I never thought I would become a student again at the age of 75,” Estabrook said. “Chicken of the Sea’s challenge encouraged me to live large and even inspired my grandchildren to take up Tae Kwon Do. I hope my story can motivate others to live out their bucket-list goals, no matter their age.”
Estabrook was one of thousands who took the Sea the Possibilities Challenge. The three-month national promotion that started in January encouraged Americans to “sample bold new foods, everyday experiences and once-in-a-lifetime adventures to create a richer, more satisfying life—both in the kitchen and beyond,” according to Chicken of the Sea, which is based in San Diego.
Participants accepted a challenge at one of three levels and shared their personal journey through stories, photos and videos. Nine monthly winners received $1,000 prizes and were eligible for the grand prize award of $5,000.
