Reynolds American To Sell Rights To Natural American Spirit Tobacco, And More…

Reynolds American Inc. (RAI) said Sept. 29 that the international rights to the Natural American Spirit brand name and associated trademarks, along with the international companies that distribute and market the brand outside the U.S., will be sold to the Japan Tobacco Group of companies (in an all-cash transaction with a value of approximately $5 billion). Japan Tobacco is an international tobacco company selling its products in more than 120 countries. The purchase does not include the rights to the Natural American Spirit brand name and associated trademarks in the U.S. market, U.S. duty-free locations, U.S. territories or in U.S. military outlets, all of which will be retained by Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Co. On Sept. 28, Sheetz opened its campus convenience store at State College, Pennsylvania, with a complete focus on food and beverage. With only one other fuel-free location companywide located at West Virginia University, the new store has a heavy focus on Sheetz’s traditional Made-to-Order selections, sandwiches and salads, prepared food and bakery items, as well as the newly launched Sheetz Bros. Coffee. The new location is open 24/7, can accommodate 144 people with indoor and outdoor seating and includes a Sheetz “beer cave.” The physical space, spanning more than 5,000-s.f., creates 35-40 jobs for the area…
