SpartanNash, a member of the C&S Wholesale Grocer’s family of companies, and the SpartanNash Foundation recently raised and donated $300,000 to Junior Achievement.

The annual in-store fundraiser took place in August and September, uniting shoppers and employees across SpartanNash’s retail footprint in support of Junior Achievement’s efforts to expand educational curriculums, foster in-school programming and provide volunteer resources for children in elementary, middle and high school.

“Our local communities are at the heart of our stores. Developing programs that help our youngest members learn, grow and explore their passions – whether that leads them to a career with us or in another field – is an important investment in our collective future,” said Djouma Barry, SVP and chief retail officer, SpartanNash.

The SpartanNash Foundation has partnered with Junior Achievement during the annual back-to-school fundraiser since 2023, providing students with financial literacy skills and inspiring them to explore career paths in the food industry. Store guests contributed to the $300,000 gift by donating an amount of their choosing at checkout. Donations also were accepted through online orders at all participating SpartanNash-operated stores.

The fundraiser is an extension of SpartanNash and JA’s ongoing partnership, which includes the experiential Family Fare activation at JA Finance Park.

“SpartanNash and the SpartanNash Foundation continue to be invaluable partners to Junior Achievement across Michigan and the Midwest,” said Bill Coderre, president and CEO, Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes.

“This back-to-school campaign resulted in record funds raised for Junior Achievement’s mission. These funds come at a critical time as JA prepares for the changing world by providing experiential learning where students achieve academically today and economically tomorrow.”

C&S CEO Eric Winn said, “We are proud to raise funds for Junior Achievement and support upcoming generations in continuing their education, developing vital career skills and planning for a bright future.”

SpartanNash joined the C&S family of companies in September 2025.
